L-Carnitine

L-Carnitine Supplement Benefits

If you have not heard of L-carnitine rest assured science has known about this amazing anti-oxidant/amino acid product since 1937. It is not actually an amino acid, because it is the result of two amino acids reacting. The first is lysine and the second is methionine, which together produce L-carnitine.

During lipolysis (fat metabolism) long-chain fatty acids are transferred to the mitochondria by L-carnitine. Which is why it directly affects everything from the speed you can process fat to the energy you have. Scientific study clearly shows that L-carnitine can reduce fatigue and suppress appetite.

If L-carnitine is added as a supplement a whole lot of benefits will result, that have been proven to make scientific sense in how and why it improves all aspects of health. But for a bodybuilder the benefit of taking 2 or 3 grams of L-carnitine a day are the following:

Fat-Loss

Men and women will benefit from taking L-carnitine. If you want to you lose body-fat, it makes a measureable difference because by speeding up the transference of long-chain fatty acids they then get oxidized faster and that means more energy, reducing fatigue while speeding up fat-loss.

Muscle Mass

Any typical hard-gainer, either too tall (ectomorph) or too wide (endomorph) will benefit from taking L-carnitine very effectively. One the one hand the rate of hypertrophy is increased because of the increased strength and on the other hand you're getting the increased fat-loss, a perfect supplement for any bodybuilder.

Healthy Heart

L- Carnitine has been used by medical science for a long time to help treat angina and some other heart conditions that allow the patient to reduce medication. Many clinical studies have clearly demonstrated that L-carnitine taken after a heart attack dramatically reduces the chance of having another one.

Kidney Treatment

L- carnitine is produced by the kidneys and there are medicines that now uses this amino acid by-product to treat people with a kidney deficiency. We not only need it to survive but it has also shown to help speed up healing of the kidneys.

Type II Diabetes

L-carnitine can help people with Type II diabetes because it increases the glucose oxidation rate, which also improves your glucose storage ability and your glucose uptake. For diabetics this means a speeding up of BMR (basal metabolic rate), making the medication more effective and speeding up of lipolysis.

Immune System

L-carnitine works as an antioxidant which can prevent any damage done by free radicals to healthy cells. For example, fighting a cold or dealing with an allergy, but it also speeds up recovery from training.

In conclusion carnitine is needed for life and we get it from all good foods we eat, taking 2 to 4 grams a day will definitely improve your health. Foods that contain carnitine are many, including all dairy products and red meats, plus seeds and nuts, plus: artichokes, parsley, broccoli, kale, Brussels sprouts, apricots, collard greens, bee pollen, garlic, brewer's yeast, mustard greens, bananas, okra, corn, buckwheat, rice, bran, rye, oatmeal and whole wheat.
